JEPARA - The construction of the Serang Welahan River bridge, or known as Jembatan Suling, has become a model for the implementation of development in Jepara Regency. In addition to using the Regional Budget (APBD), the cost of development is also fully supported by self-help from surrounding communities.
After being inaugurated by the Secretary of Jepara Sholih, on Thursday (10/1), the bridge built on the Serang River can be directly utilized by the surrounding community. The inauguration was marked by the signing of an inscription stone, and continued with ribbon cutting. Present on the occasion, Deputy Speaker of the Regional Parliament Jepara Pratikno, Chair of the Welahan Sugandi Temple Heritage Foundation and related officials.
In his speech, Sholih gave his appreciation to the Welahan Temple Heritage Foundation, as the biggest donor in the construction of the Kali Serang bridge. "Without support from the entire Welahan community, of course this development will not be achieved," he said.
For Sholih, the Sungai Serang bridge is already familiar to him. While still in school, or about thirty-three years ago, he often passed this bridge, to get to Demak Regency. "When I was in school, if I wanted to go to Demak, I often passed this bridge, and thank God, now it is getting better," he said.
It is said, the construction of this bridge is a form of very large participation, from the villagers of Welahan, both in terms of funding, energy and thought. This also proves, compactness in building the village. "This model of development must be an example for other villages," he said.
Sholih hopes that this development with community participation will not only stop here, considering that there are still many problems that must be solved together. Like construction, roads, sanitation, places of worship, and health and education facilities.
The bridge is considered to provide a multiplier effect, on the one hand transportation becomes smooth and public mobility increases. On the other hand, it will be able to move the village economy.
The Chairman of the Bridge Construction Committee, Darno Kundori, said that the construction of the Serang River was a follow-up of the community's proposal in the Tilik Desa activity forum in Welahan, some time ago. Then responded and continued with the repair process.
This bridge, costs around Rp. 700 million. Using APBD funds Rp. 200 million, and the rest comes from non-governmental organizations. Before it was built, the Serang River Bridge was 3 meters wide and 60 meters long. After being built, it is now 5 meters wide and 60 meters long.
