Pidie Distinctive Motifs on Display: Local Culture Fashion Show Highlights Heritage and Creativity
Pidie Kartininews.com – Pidie's distinctive motifs are more than just decoration on a piece of cloth. Behind each pattern lies a story of identity, history, and local wisdom passed down through generations.
That spirit of preserving cultural heritage took shape in the 2026 Pidie Distinctive Motif Fashion Show Competition, held by the Pidie Regency Government through the Pidie Regency Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) at the PCC Sigli Building Hall on Tuesday (9/8/2026).
Carrying the theme "The Fragrance of Pidie Culture in Local Wisdom Motifs," the event brought together representatives from all 23 districts across Pidie Regency to showcase their creativity in transforming the region's distinctive motifs into modern, eye-catching fashion.
For Pidie Regent Sarjani Abdullah, the event was more than just a competition. It served as a space to reintroduce Pidie's cultural richness while encouraging the community to keep developing the region's heritage through creativity.
"Pidie has a wealth of culture, history, art, and tradition that forms the community's identity. The region's distinctive motifs and decorative patterns can become a source of cultural pride as well as economic value if developed with creativity," said Sarjani.
He said local culture doesn't have to remain confined to traditional forms. With a creative touch, Pidie's distinctive motifs can keep pace with the times and appear in more modern fashion.
"We want to show that local culture doesn't have to clash with the times. In fact, through creativity, Pidie's distinctive motifs can be developed into fashion that's modern, beautiful, elegant, and suited to today's needs, without abandoning the cultural values they carry," he explained.
That spirit was then translated through the performances of participants from various districts. Each outfit became its own way of showing how the richness of local motifs can be reshaped into work that's closer to people's everyday lives today.
Of the 23 participating districts, Glumpang Baro District won 1st Place. Geumpang District took 2nd Place, while Kota Sigli District came in 3rd.
In the runner-up categories, Glumpang Tiga District won Runner-up 1, Tiro District Runner-up 2, and Mutiara District Runner-up 3. Meanwhile, the Favorite Outfit title went to Indrajaya District.
The event, officially opened by the Pidie Regent, was also attended by Aceh TP PKK Chair Marlina Muzakir, Pidie TP PKK Chair Rohana Razali Sarjani, Pidie TP-PKK Deputy Chair I Mona Rizki Arisanti Alzaizi, members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), and all heads of regional work units (SKPK) within the Pidie Regency Government.
The atmosphere was rich with cultural nuance throughout. The event opened with a Qur'an recitation and Shalawat Badar led by Ustaz Joni Akbar, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem "Indonesia Raya," the Aceh Anthem (Mars Aceh), and the Pidie TP PKK Anthem (Mars TP PKK Pidie).
A performance of the traditional Acehnese Tarek Pukat dance added to the festivities, serving as a reminder that Aceh's cultural wealth takes many forms — from motifs and fashion to performing arts.
Regent Sarjani stressed that preserving culture is not the government's job alone. The community has an important role to play in ensuring cultural heritage stays alive and continues to evolve amid changing times.
He said the Pidie Regency Government will continue to promote activities that give the community space to create and develop the region's cultural potential.
"I hope this event can be a step toward introducing Pidie's distinctive motifs to a wider audience, at the Aceh, national, and even international levels," he concluded.
Through creativity, Pidie's distinctive motifs are expected not only to be remembered as part of the region's cultural heritage, but also to continue living on in everyday life. From a piece of cloth and a single motif, Pidie is working to carry the story of its regional identity even further.
