Padang Mayor Emphasizes Orderly and Digital Transportation

Padang Kartininews.com – The Padang City Government is strengthening efforts to improve the transportation and traffic sector through a leadership refresh at the Padang City Transportation Agency (Dishub). Tackling traffic congestion, cracking down on illegal shadow terminals, and digitalizing parking are the main priorities that must be addressed immediately.

This was stated by Padang Mayor Fadly Amran while leading the handover ceremony for the Head of the Padang City Transportation Agency at the Dishub office yard on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

The handover was marked by the transfer of the Dishub Pataka Flag from Ances Kurniawan to the mayor, who then handed it over to Yudi Indra Syani as the new agency head.

Yudi Indra Syani previously served as Head of the Padang City Tourism Agency, while Ances Kurniawan has been assigned a new mandate as Head of the Padang City Population and Civil Registration Agency after nearly three years leading Dishub.

In his directive, Fadly Amran appreciated the performance of the Transportation Agency, which has shown positive development in recent years.

“Alhamdulillah, the performance of the Padang City Transportation Agency has developed for the better. This is also thanks to the drive and leadership of Mr. Ances Kurniawan,” he said.

However, he stressed that there are still several pending tasks that must be completed immediately, particularly regarding traffic congestion and urban transportation orderliness.

According to Fadly, Dishub has a strategic role in supporting public services and the success of Padang’s flagship programs: Padang Amanah and Padang Rancak.

“First, Padang anti-congestion. I ask for strategic and professional traffic engineering to be carried out,” he emphasized.

The mayor also called for the eradication of illegal shadow terminals, which are seen as disrupting the city’s official transportation system. He stressed the need to optimize the function of Terminal Anak Air, which was built by the central government with a large budget.

In addition, Fadly Amran highlighted the issue of illegal parking and unauthorized fees still found at several points in the city. He requested that the official parking system be immediately shifted to a digital system to improve transparency and service to the public.

“Illegal parking must be disciplined. If it is truly needed by the community, legalize and manage it properly. But if it is illegal and disturbing, take firm action, because existing official parking must now be digitalized in line with technological developments,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of professionalism, firmness, and transparency across all levels of Dishub in creating a safe, orderly, and comfortable transportation system for the community.

The inauguration and handover ceremony was also attended by the Head of West Sumatra Provincial Transportation Agency Dedy Diantolani, Head of the West Sumatra Jasa Raharja Regional Office Teguh Afrianto, Forkopimda elements, and several heads of regional apparatus organizations within the Padang City Government.

Parking Supervision and 112 Complaint Channel

The Padang City Government is tightening supervision of illegal parking ahead of a surge in tourist visits during the upcoming long weekend holiday. This measure aims to maintain comfort, order, and safety for both residents and tourists at various crowded spots in the city.

Through the Padang City Transportation Agency (Dishub), the government urges the public not to pay parking fees to illegal attendants who do not have official identification.

Head of the Padang City Transportation Agency, Yudi Indra Syani, explained that official parking officers can be identified by their special vests and clear name tags.

“We urge all residents and visiting tourists to only pay parking fees to official officers, who can be recognized by their proper identification. If they are not official, do not pay them,” he said on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

According to Yudi, the increased supervision is in response to high community mobility and the potential rise in illegal fee collection in tourist areas and crowded centers during the long holiday.

The Padang City Government also encourages the public to be proactive if they encounter illegal parking practices or thuggery in the field.

To speed up the handling of reports, the regional government provides an emergency complaint service through the number 112, which the public can access directly.

“Please report any unofficial parking attendants to 112, and we will follow up immediately,” he emphasized.

This step is part of the implementation of the Padang City Government’s flagship program, Padang Sigap, which focuses on rapid response to community issues and improving the quality of public services.

In addition to maintaining urban order, parking supervision is also considered important for creating a positive image of Padang as a safe and comfortable tourist destination, especially during long holiday periods with increased visitor numbers.
