Bank Kalbar Anniversary Fishing Competition Becomes People's Entertainment

Pontianak Kartininews.com – West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan is encouraging the fishing competition in the Sungai Jawi area, Pontianak, on Sunday (10/5/2026), as a means of public entertainment while also driving the local economy and promoting the urban area.

The event, part of the 62nd anniversary celebration of Bank Kalbar, was attended by around 3,000 participants and featured an additional grand prize of an Umrah pilgrimage for the first-place winner.

The fishing competition is one of the series of activities held to commemorate Bank Kalbar’s 62nd anniversary.

In her speech, Governor Norsan stated that the patience-testing activity drew approximately 3,000 participants along the Sungai Jawi area. She also announced the additional Umrah prize for the overall winner.

“The main prize is Rp10 million, and I promise to add an Umrah pilgrimage for the first-place winner. If the winner is non-Muslim, the prize will be adjusted to the equivalent value. Fishing requires patience and a good strike, which is almost the same as managing Bank Kalbar. That’s why Bank Kalbar is holding this fishing competition today. I hope this activity can provide benefits for the people of Pontianak,” Norsan said.

Furthermore, Norsan expressed hope that the fishing competition can continue every year, as fishing is a popular hobby across various segments of society.

“I hope this activity can continue annually, because fishing is a hobby of people from all walks of life — including myself,” she added.

The number one official in West Kalimantan also urged the public to keep the river clean in the Sungai Jawi area.

“My message to the community is to keep our river clean,” she said.

Meanwhile, Pontianak Mayor Edi Rusdi Kamtono expressed appreciation for Bank Kalbar’s organization of the fishing competition.

He explained that the competition was judged based on the number and weight of catfish caught by participants.

“The competition lasted approximately three hours and ended at 11:15 WIB,” Edi explained.

On the same occasion, Bank Kalbar President Director Rokidi stated that in addition to the fishing competition, various other activities were held to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Bank Kalbar, including a fun run, blood donation, Bank Kalbar Idol, mini soccer, and badminton.

“Positive activities like this not only attract tourism but also educate the public to participate in banking literacy at Bank Kalbar,” he explained.
