Banten Provincial Government Strengthens Youth Character Through Leadership Training

Banten kartininews.com – The Banten Provincial Government, through the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora), held a leadership training and character-building program for 50 young people from various youth organizations as well as representatives from regencies and cities across Banten. The event took place at the Banten Provincial Youth Life Skills Area in Sukajaya Village, Keroncong District, Pandeglang Regency, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

The training, which runs from May 12–13, 2026, focuses on shaping character, discipline, and leadership spirit among the younger generation through a semi-military training approach. Participants undergo outdoor training, discipline reinforcement, and stay in 12x6 meter barracks separated between male and female participants.

Banten Provincial Secretary Deden Apriandhi stated that youth hold a strategic position in determining the direction of national development, especially in facing the demographic bonus.

“You, the younger generation, must be able to make choices — whether to play a positive role or contribute negatively to development. This training aims to guide those choices,” said Deden.

According to Deden, youth organizations serve as important platforms for young people to gain experience and build leadership character before entering society directly.

“Organizations are learning spaces. Young people who are actively involved in organizations will be better prepared to contribute to development compared to those who are not involved in positive activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Fauzul Hakim, an alumnus of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University Banten (UIN SMHB) and a member of the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI), viewed the activity as a form of the Banten Provincial Government’s concern for developing youth potential.

He expressed hope that youth involvement would not be limited to training but would also extend to policy formulation and regional development processes.

“We welcome activities like this, where there is stronger collaborative effort between Banten’s youth and the provincial government to support provincial development,” said Fauzul.

He noted that the training method, which includes staying in barracks and outdoor activities, provides a new experience in building togetherness and discipline. However, he believes character building requires a continuous process.

“We hope the Banten Provincial Government will hold more activities like this and provide follow-up after the training so the results can be maximized,” he added.

Head of the Banten Provincial Youth and Sports Agency, Ahmad Syaukani, said the training aims to provide foundational leadership skills while strengthening collaboration among youth in Banten Province.

The participants consist of 24 representatives from district/city youth agencies across Banten, 16 participants from provincial-level Youth Community Organizations (OKP), and 10 participants from universities.

“The main objective of this activity is to provide basic leadership principles, facilitate collaboration, and broaden the horizons of young people who already have organizational backgrounds,” said Syaukani.

He added that the program focuses on building leadership spirit, togetherness, and teamwork among Banten’s youth through field training and character development.

“The training materials are delivered by the Provincial Dispora, practitioners, and involve various youth elements,” he said.
