Padang Champion: MIN 3 Padang Student Wins Gold at National KOSSMI

Padang Kartininews.com – The achievements of Padang City students continue to shine at the national level. Ahmad Dzaki Maulana, a sixth-grade student at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 3 Padang, successfully won a gold medal in the Mathematics category (Level 2) at the Indonesian Muslim Student Science Competition (KOSSMI), held at Telkom University, Bandung, on May 10, 2026.

This accomplishment is a source of pride for the education sector in Padang City. Amid fierce competition from participants across various provinces in Indonesia, Dzaki demonstrated his best abilities and secured the top position in this prestigious national science competition.

The achievement also strengthens optimism for the emergence of a superior generation in line with the Padang City Government’s flagship program, “Padang Juara,” which encourages the improvement of education quality and student competitiveness from an early age.

Head of MIN 3 Padang, M. Yusuf, said the success was not achieved instantly, but through a tiered coaching process and intensive mentoring within the madrasah environment.

“Alhamdulillah, Dzaki won the gold medal at the National KOSSMI. This achievement is the result of the selection and coaching process we have carried out since the madrasah level up to the provincial level,” he said, accompanied by student coach Andi Ardiman, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

He explained that MIN 3 Padang routinely identifies student talents starting from grade IV in various academic fields, including Mathematics, Science, Arabic, and English. After going through the selection stages, students with potential receive specialized coaching according to their respective fields.

According to him, this continuous coaching pattern is one of the keys to producing student achievements at the national level. The process not only sharpens academic abilities but also builds competitive mentality, discipline, and self-confidence in the students.

M. Yusuf also appreciated the support from the Padang City Government for the development of madrasah student achievements under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This synergy is considered important in creating an educational ecosystem capable of producing high-achieving and character-driven generations.

“The collaboration between the Padang City Government and the Ministry of Religious Affairs is going very well. This support serves as motivation for us to continue supporting the Padang Juara program in producing superior and competitive generations,” he added.

The success of Ahmad Dzaki Maulana is hoped to inspire other students to continue achieving, expand their competencies, and bring pride to Padang City at national and international levels.

“We are certainly proud of the achievements of the three SMPN 1 Padang students. This proves that our students have the ability to compete at the national level,” she said on Monday (11/5/2026).

According to Yopi, academic competitions like KOSSMI provide an important space to increase students’ self-confidence, critical thinking skills, and competencies from an early age.

She hopes these successes can become motivation for other schools in Padang City to continue encouraging student participation in various national and international competitions.

“Our hope is that through the competitions they participate in, students’ self-confidence will increase further and their competencies will continue to grow,” she said.

The achievements of SMPN 1 Padang students are also considered in line with the flagship program “Padang Juara” initiated by the Mayor of Padang to nurture a golden generation that excels academically, in character, and in competitiveness.

The Padang City Government views these accomplishments as inseparable from the hard work of the students, the support of teachers, and an educational environment that continues to promote a culture of excellence in schools.

Moving forward, the Padang City Government hopes that more local students will record achievements in various fields, thereby strengthening Padang’s image as one of the regions with superior education quality in West Sumatra.
