Banjarbaru Trains 50 Fisheries Entrepreneurs to Develop Higher-Value Fish Products
BANJARBARU — A total of 50 fisheries entrepreneurs in Banjarbaru are taking part in technical training on fish processing and marketing aimed at improving their skills in developing a wider range of high-quality, value-added fish products.
Organized by the Banjarbaru City Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency (DKP3), the two-day programme runs from Nov. 5 to 6, 2026, at the Freshwater Aquaculture Production Unit in Mentaos, North Banjarbaru district.
The training is designed for fisheries processing and marketing groups, known locally as Poklahsar, particularly micro and small business operators. In addition to improving processing skills, the programme aims to strengthen standards for product quality and food safety.
Risnawati, head of the fisheries division at Banjarbaru’s DKP3, said the training focuses on product diversification to help businesses develop a broader range of processed fish products and improve their competitiveness in the market.
“The objective is to help business operators diversify their fish processing activities so that our fisheries products become more varied and command higher market prices,” she said.
She explained that the programme had attracted 50 participants, comprising members and administrators of Poklahsar groups from various parts of Banjarbaru.
Through the training, the agency hopes participants will be able to develop different types of fisheries products, ranging from dried and preserved products to fresh products that require proper handling and freezing.
Meanwhile, Lindri Giwanging Tyas, head of the business development and fisheries processing section at DKP3, stressed the importance of applying the skills acquired during the programme.
She said the training was expected not only to expand participants’ knowledge but also to encourage them to develop sustainable businesses that could contribute to improving household incomes.
“We hope this two-day technical training will provide tangible benefits to the community, particularly fisheries entrepreneurs, by strengthening their skills, improving family incomes and supporting the realization of Banjarbaru EMAS,” Lindri said.
Through the initiative, the Banjarbaru city government aims to help local fisheries businesses produce high-quality, safe-to-consume and value-added products.
The development of these products is expected to create broader market opportunities while strengthening the competitiveness of micro and small enterprises in the fisheries sector.
The programme is part of the Banjarbaru city government's broader efforts to advance its Banjarbaru EMAS vision. (red)
