Kartini Hebat Banjarbaru Plants Agarwood Trees
Banjarbaru – The spirit of environmental preservation combined with strengthening the role of women was once again championed by the Banjarbaru City Government through the “Kartini Hebat Banjarbaru” program, realized through a tree-planting activity of agarwood trees at Arboretum Ayu Tirta on Wednesday (20/5/2026).
The event was attended directly by Banjarbaru’s number one official, Erna Lisa Halaby, alongside the Chairperson of the TP PKK Banjarbaru City, H. Riandy Hidayat. Their presence underscored the seriousness of the Banjarbaru City Government in building real initiatives that focus not only on urban development but also on environmental sustainability.
In the midst of the green expanse of Arboretum Ayu Tirta, Mayor Lisa planted an agarwood tree as a symbol of the birth of the “Kartini Hebat Banjarbaru” spirit — women who are not only strong in their social roles but also pioneers in environmental concern and the future of the next generation.
The agarwood tree (Aquilaria) was chosen for good reason. Known as the “green gold of the archipelago,” this plant has high economic value due to its fragrant wood and resin, which are highly sought after even in international markets. The uniqueness of agarwood lies in the natural formation of resin that occurs when the tree trunk is infected by certain fungi. From this natural process, valuable agarwood resin is formed.
After the planting, Mayor Banjarbaru and her husband toured the arboretum area, accompanied by the founder of Arboretum Ayu Tirta, Chendrawan Sugianto. On this occasion, various types of plants and the richness of biodiversity were introduced as part of environmental education for both the government and the public.
Lisa expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the efforts of Arboretum Ayu Tirta in preserving and introducing various plants to the wider community. According to her, the existence of the arboretum serves as an important educational space to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining natural balance.
“A well-preserved environment is a major investment for the future of the region. Therefore, concern for nature must continue to be nurtured together,” she said.
The event also included the presentation of souvenirs and bags from the founder of Arboretum Ayu Tirta to the Mayor of Banjarbaru as a token of appreciation and remembrance.
Through this activity, the Banjarbaru City Government aims to convey the message that the spirit of modern Kartini is not only about emancipation, but also about the courage to take an active role in protecting the earth, nurturing life, and driving positive change for the surrounding environment.
