The case began with a report received on 18 July 2024. Based on the investigation, the alleged crimes occurred repeatedly between February 2020 and January 2024.
The suspect’s modus operandi was to ask the victim to sleep with him under the pretext of spiritual healing and certain teachings.
The victim is alleged to have been sexually abused up to ten times at different locations. The victim had been reluctant to report the incidents due to fear and pressure, given the suspect’s strong influence in the pesantren environment.
“We appreciate the courage of the victim and her family for coming forward to the police. This report has become the entry point to uncover the case transparently and prevent other potential victims,” he said.
The Opsnal Team of Unit V Jatanras Satreskrim successfully arrested the suspect in the Purwantoro area on Thursday early morning at around 04:30 WIB. After being secured, the suspect was immediately taken to the police station for legal proceedings.
Investigators also seized several pieces of evidence, including the victim’s clothing and one mobile phone suspected of being used for communication.
Police have also questioned various witnesses, including foundation administrators, parents/guardians, medical personnel, and criminal experts.
“We are still deepening the investigation, including the possibility of other victims. Therefore, we have opened a TPKS complaint post to receive reports from the public who may have experienced similar incidents,” he said.
Jaka added that in addition to law enforcement, his team is also ensuring the victim receives protection and psychological recovery through coordination with relevant agencies. The victim’s identity will be kept confidential to avoid further trauma.
“We want the victim to feel safe and protected throughout the legal process. We are also safeguarding the victim’s identity to prevent ongoing trauma or social pressure,” he added.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 76 E in conjunction with Article 82 of the Child Protection Law, the Sexual Violence Crime Law, and Article 418 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). If found guilty, the perpetrator faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and a fine of up to Rp5 billion.
