430 Indonesian Athletes Ready to Compete at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026
Japan – A total of 430 Indonesian athletes from 35 sports are set to fight for the red-and-white flag at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, officially opened in Japan on Saturday (9/19/2026).
The Indonesian contingent will compete in the largest sporting event in Asia, which features 469 events across 43 sports. The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games run until October 4, 2026.
The opening ceremony was held at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, starting at 3:00 p.m. Jakarta time (WIB), under the theme "Imagine One Asia."
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has called on the Indonesian public to support the athletes as they strive to carry Indonesia's name on Asia's sporting stage.
Public support can be shown through prayers, encouragement, and following the progress of Team Indonesia throughout the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
430 Athletes Competing in 35 Sports
The Indonesian contingent is taking part in 35 sports at this year's Asian Games. These include archery, athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, rowing, cycling, esports, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karate, modern pentathlon, padel, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, squash, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, teqball, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Participation across these various sports is part of Indonesia's effort to maximize its chances of achievement at this four-yearly Asian sporting event.
The competition takes place amid the presence of athletes from across Asia, all vying for medals across hundreds of events.
The Indonesian public can also watch the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games through several broadcast channels.
Kemenpora said the opening ceremony can be watched via TVRI, the Rans Entertainment YouTube channel, and Vidio.com.
Beyond watching the matches, the public is also encouraged to give moral support to Indonesia's athletes as they go through their series of competitions until October 4.
That support serves as a source of energy for the athletes as they carry out their fight in the arena while carrying Indonesia's name at this Asian sporting event.
