Coffee and Cocoa Development Becomes Gayo Lues’ Strategy to Improve Community Welfare

Blangkejeren – The Gayo Lues Regency Government continues to push for economic improvement among its people by developing the region’s flagship commodities: coffee and cocoa. This effort is being carried out by encouraging residents to utilize available land to plant these two crops.

As part of this initiative, the Gayo Lues Regency Government held a socialization session on the priority program for coffee and cocoa development for village leaders (pengulu) in Blangjerango Subdistrict, so the information can be further disseminated to residents at the village level.

“The purpose of this meeting is to accelerate the development of coffee and cocoa,” said a representative of the local government during the socialization held at the Blangjerango Subdistrict Office Hall on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

The program is designed to support the region’s economic self-reliance while increasing coffee and cocoa production capacity to meet market demand, including export requirements.

According to him, Gayo Lues coffee has good competitiveness in terms of quality. However, limited production remains the main obstacle in fulfilling investor demand.

“Our coffee quality is also good, but because our production quota is still very small, we cannot meet investor requests. The solution is that we must continue planting. Idle lands should start being cultivated,” he explained.

The local government also urged the community to take this opportunity seriously. Residents’ enthusiasm for participating in the coffee and cocoa development program is considered quite high and serves as an important asset for the program’s success.

To speed up the planting of coffee and cocoa, the Gayo Lues Regency Government has also formed a special task force (Satgas) that will focus on overseeing the program’s implementation, ensuring it runs effectively and delivers direct benefits to the community’s welfare.

Meanwhile, Blangjerango Subdistrict Head Zulkarnain expressed hope that the priority program would deliver real benefits to the people in his area. “Hopefully it can achieve the expected targets,” he said.
