Kampar Regency Government Supports International Student Exchange
Kampar - The Kampar Regency Government (Pemkab Kampar) has expressed full support for the implementation of an international student exchange program involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
This support was conveyed by Helmi, Acting Head of the Kampar Department of Education, Youth, and Sports (Dikpora), during the event held from May 4–8, 2026.
Helmi stated that the international student exchange program was attended by a total of 173 participants from the three countries. All Indonesian participants came from SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang Kota, representing the host district of Kampar Regency.
“This is an important momentum to strengthen friendship among students across countries, while also enhancing cooperation in the fields of education and culture,” Helmi said in Kampar Regency, Riau Province, on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
According to him, Kampar Regency possesses rich cultural heritage that deserves to be introduced to the international community through this student exchange program.
He expressed hope that participants would get to know and respect the cultural diversity of each country, thereby fostering harmonious relationships among the younger generation in the region.
“We warmly welcome this activity as a strategic platform for shaping a young generation that is not only academically intelligent but also possesses a global outlook, high tolerance, and the ability to become cultural ambassadors for the region on the international stage,” he said.
Helmi views direct interaction between students from various countries as an important opportunity to exchange experiences and expand international friendship networks.
In addition, the activity is considered capable of improving cross-cultural communication skills needed by the younger generation in the era of globalization.
“It is hoped that this international student exchange program can continue to be improved in order to produce outstanding young people who are globally competitive and able to bring honor to the region on the international stage,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dasril Amali, Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang Kota, expressed pride that his school was trusted to participate in this international-level event.
“We feel proud and honored. This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn directly about cultural diversity, build self-confidence, and expand their international horizons,” said Dasril.
He hopes that similar activities can continue to be held, as they are seen to have a positive impact on the character development and capabilities of students in the future.
