SPPG Liquid Waste in Blora Overflows, Unpleasant Odor Disturbs Local Community

Blora Kartininews.com - Liquid waste suspected to be from the operations of the Sukorejo 2 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Tunjungan Subdistrict is flowing out of the kitchen area. This has caused an unpleasant odor in the surrounding residential neighborhood.

The Head of SPPG Sukorejo 2-Tunjungan, Ahmad Afif Jaelani, confirmed that there have been public complaints regarding the unpleasant odor from the liquid waste. However, he stated that the land affected by the waste pollution still belongs to the partner and is not public land.

“Regarding the environmental pollution, the land belongs to this partner itself. So even if it is polluted, it is still within the partner’s own land area,” Afif said on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Afif explained that his side has proposed the procurement of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) to the foundation to address the pollution.

“We are currently proposing it to the foundation. As it happens, the equipment for the bio-tank IPAL has already arrived,” he revealed.

He disclosed that the SPPG has had an IPAL all along, but its capacity is considered insufficient, causing the wastewater to overflow and produce an odor.

“Actually, we already have a standard three-chamber IPAL. It’s just that the capacity is indeed not yet enough, so it might be overflowing,” he said.

“And now we are also making improvements—the equipment has arrived,” Afif added.

Afif mentioned that there have been several inputs from residents complaining about the odor from the overflowing liquid waste. His side has been making efforts to suck out the IPAL three times a week. Meanwhile, he assured that the installation of the bio-tank IPAL would be accelerated.

“As an anticipation for community complaints, we suck out the IPAL three times a week,” he said.

Separately, the Coordinator of SPPG Tunjungan Subdistrict, Setiawan Pambudianto, who represented the Regional Coordinator for Blora Regency, Artika Diannita, acknowledged that the pungent odor from the waste was quite disturbing.

He expressed hope that the management would immediately resolve the issue so that the operations of the SPPG kitchen would not become a nuisance for the surrounding community.

“As for the smell itself, I think it is quite disturbing. So the SPPG side has also explained earlier that they are currently in the process of addressing or resolving the community’s complaints,” Setiawan said.
