Kudus Regency Government Prepares Catfish Farming as Support for MBG

Kudus Kartininews.com - The Kudus Regency Government has begun preparing the catfish farming sector to support the needs of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). One of the steps taken was a direct visit to observe catfish farming owned by residents in Honggosoco Village, Jekulo Subdistrict, Kudus.

The visit was conducted by Kudus Deputy Regent Bellinda Birton together with Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Andhika Satya Wasistho. During the visit, the group directly observed the catfish farming process belonging to Sumitro and listened to the aspirations of local fish farmers.

Bellinda stated that the demand for fish is expected to increase in line with the plan to include fish in the MBG program menu. Therefore, the regional government is starting to ensure the readiness of supply from catfish farmers in Kudus.

“We want to ensure that the fish supply will truly be met. Especially since there is a directive to include fish in the MBG program menu,” she said on Friday (8/5/2026).

According to her, the regional government will also encourage every Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchen to regularly provide fish menus. This step is expected to increase demand for local fish farming products.

“Later, a circular letter will be issued so that SPPG kitchens provide a fish menu at least several times a month. The hope is that catfish farmers in Kudus will also grow,” she said.

In addition to reviewing the catfish farming, the visit also discussed proposals for assistance under the BioVlog program or cultivation ponds from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). Kudus Regency has proposed 22 cultivation pond sites to receive support from the program.

Bellinda hopes that the proposal can be realized soon so that it can strengthen the fish farming sector at the village level.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission VII of the DPR RI, Andhika Satya Wasistho, expressed his support for the development of catfish farming in Kudus. According to him, the sector has quite good economic potential for the community.

“Today we saw directly the catfish farming and heard the community’s aspirations regarding the pond assistance program from the ministry. We will certainly push for this to hit the target,” he said.

Andhika assessed that catfish farming can serve as an example of a people’s business capable of improving family economies. From the site visit, he received information that fish farmers can earn a net profit of up to around Rp10 million per month.

According to him, this condition shows that fish farming businesses still have great opportunities to grow if they receive government support.

“This can be an example for the community to be brave in entrepreneurship. It just depends on how the central and regional governments provide support so that MSMEs continue to develop,” he said.

He added that strengthening the small business and village farming sectors is important because it has a direct impact on economic growth at both the community and national levels.
