National Best Bonsai Plants Add Vibrance to Jambi City Anniversary Celebration
Jambi Kartininews.com – The best bonsai plants from various regions across Indonesia brought excitement to the 2026 Jambi City National Bonsai Exhibition, held in the parking area of the Jambi Mayor’s Office. The event served not only as a space to appreciate the art of bonsai but was also seen as capable of driving the creative economy and attracting young people’s interest in horticulture.
The exhibition, part of the 80th Anniversary of the Jambi City Government and the 625th Anniversary of Tanah Pilih Pusako Batuah, was officially opened by Jambi Mayor Maulana, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Diza Hazra Aljosha, on Thursday afternoon (21/5/2026).
A total of 346 bonsai trees from various categories — ranging from Prospect, Intermediate (Madya), to Beginner (Pratama) classes — were displayed during the event, which ran from 15 to 23 May 2026.
Mayor Maulana stated that the bonsai exhibition has a positive impact not only in terms of art and hobby but also on the growth of the community’s creative economy.
“This is a hobby that can become a profession and has economic value. Hopefully, activities like this will continue,” said Maulana.
He added that bonsai is not just an ornamental plant, but a work of art that requires special skills, diligence, and high patience in its shaping process.
For this reason, he encouraged the younger generation of Jambi City to get to know and develop a love for bonsai as a positive activity that can help shape character.
“Bonsai plants require special skills and patience. This is good for supporting the character building of the younger generation,” he said.
In addition to serving as a gathering event for national bonsai enthusiasts, the exhibition was also considered capable of increasing the selling value of participants’ bonsai plants by providing appreciation and assessment from a professional jury.
“I hope this event will be beneficial for the participants while also increasing the value of the bonsai on display,” added Maulana.
Meanwhile, Rendra, Chairman of the Jambi City Indonesian Bonsai Lovers Association (PPBI), said that this national bonsai exhibition has entered its third year as part of the series of events commemorating Jambi City’s anniversary.
Although the number of participants this year slightly decreased, he noted that the quality of the bonsai exhibited has actually improved, dominated by Grade A bonsai from various regions.
“This year’s exhibition is filled with the best quality bonsai,” he said.
He expressed hope that the event would continue to be part of the celebration of Jambi’s historic day while strengthening Jambi’s position as one of the national centers for bonsai activities.
During the opening ceremony, the committee also announced the winners in the Best in Show, Best in Madya Class, and Best Pratama categories. The awards were marked by the direct installation of plaques by Mayor Maulana and Deputy Mayor Diza Hazra Aljosha on the winning bonsai trees.
The event was also attended by several regional officials, sub-district heads within the Jambi City Government, Chairman of the Jury Yayat Hidayat and his team, as well as participants and bonsai lover communities from various regions across Indonesia.
