Sergai Regent: Bumi Serampang Dua Belas Festival Serves as a Means to Preserve Culture

Sergai Kartininews.com – Serdang Bedagai (Sergai) Regent Darma Wijaya emphasized that the Bumi Serampang Dua Belas Festival is not merely an entertainment event, but an important platform for preserving local culture and wisdom so that they continue to thrive amid the changing times.

“Activities like this provide us with a space to preserve culture and local wisdom so they do not disappear. Regional traditions, arts, and culture must continue to be safeguarded and passed on to the younger generation,” he said while flagging off the drum band parade in Perbaungan District on Friday (15/5/2026).

Prior to attending the event, Darma Wijaya and his entourage cycled from the official residence in Sei Rampah to the venue. This was done as a call to the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle while strengthening interaction with residents.

Crowds of people lined the streets to watch the performances of drum band participants from various regions. At least six drum band groups from Sergai and other areas in North Sumatra took part in the parade.

He stated that the Sergai Regency Government will continue to support various arts and cultural activities that directly involve the community.

According to him, cultural preservation requires the participation of all elements of society, including the younger generation.

He also appreciated the enthusiasm of the drum band participants, who performed with great creativity and discipline. He noted that these performances show that performing arts still have a place in society and can serve as a means to strengthen unity.

“This festival has become a symbol of togetherness for the people of Sergai. We want local culture to remain alive, develop, and become a source of pride and identity for our region,” he said.

In addition to preserving culture, he expressed hope that the Bumi Serampang Dua Belas Festival would have a positive impact on the community’s economy, especially for MSME operators and traders who helped enliven the event.

The drum band parade was also attended by heads of regional government agencies (OPD), the Perbaungan Subdistrict Head, the organizing committee, community leaders, and the parade participants.
