Behind a Cup of Senduro Coffee Lies Economic Potential

Lumajang – Djodog Kaffe held an educational event on the processing of Senduro Robusta Coffee in Senduro Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, East Java, on Sunday (21/6/2026).

The activity aimed to introduce the processing of Senduro Robusta coffee while broadening public understanding of the added value of local coffee commodities.

Riki, owner of Djodog Kaffe, said participants gained knowledge about the coffee processing stages, product introduction, and business opportunities that can be developed from the coffee sector.

“This event includes coffee education, coffee-making testimonials, an introduction to Djodog Kaffe’s coffee products and their target markets. It was followed by a coffee tasting session and shopping for Senduro Robusta coffee products,” he said.

According to Riki, coffee quality is not determined only during the brewing process, but starts from fruit harvesting, post-harvest processing, roasting, through to serving the consumer.

He believes education is an important part of increasing public appreciation for local coffee while strengthening the competitiveness of regional coffee products amid increasingly tight market competition.

“That is why education for the community is very important so that more people understand the added value of local coffee,” he said.

Data from the Lumajang Regency Food Security and Agriculture Service records that Robusta coffee production in 2025 reached 1,832.29 tons from an area of approximately 4,003.70 hectares. This achievement positions coffee as one of the key plantation commodities supporting the economy of communities in the slopes and highlands of Lumajang.

In addition to education for the general public, Djodog Kaffe also plans to develop learning programs for the younger generation through free workshops targeting high school (SMA/SMK) students and university students.

“In the future, we plan to hold free workshops targeting 12th-grade SMA and SMK students, as well as students from several universities in Lumajang,” Riki revealed.

Through the program, participants will be introduced to various professional opportunities in the coffee industry, ranging from barista, roaster, product processor, café manager, marketing, to coffee-based tourism development.

This activity is expected to strengthen public understanding of local coffee while encouraging the emergence of a young generation capable of developing coffee’s potential as part of the creative economy and regional identity.
